“The Dirty Dozen: Social Security Rules for Divorced Spouses”
Social Security rules are complicated and even more so when involving divorced spouses. This seminar reviews the duration of marriage rules to qualify for Social Security benefits on an ex’s earnings record, discusses what happens to benefits if one or the other ex remarries, and outlines the circumstances under which an ex-spouse may be eligible for survivor benefits upon the death of a former mate. It also discusses benefits for children of divorced couples. During the seminar, I will review basic rules about Social Security benefit eligibility based on age, work history and marital status, discuss the changes to claiming strategies resulting from the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015 and review rules affecting California state employees.
“Medicare and the Ticking Time Bomb of Retirement Income”
With so many Americans working beyond traditional retirement age, when to enroll in Medicare can be confusing and the price of missing key enrollment deadlines is high. This seminar reviews with rules and timelines for signing up for Medicare. It also discusses Medicare costs. Few people realize that how much they pay for Medicare part B and D premiums is determined by their income in retirement. Financial advisers will learn how to help clients avoid costly surcharges by positioning their assets in the appropriate accounts.
